Format text with the editor

Wherever enrola lets you format text, such as an email, an employer's description or an applicant's answer, it shows a small toolbar above the box. The buttons depend on where the text will be used.

The three toolbars

Emails and email templates

The email editor toolbar: Source, Save, New Page, Preview, Print and Templates, then Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough, Subscript, Superscript, Link, Remove Format and Image.

Used for status email templates, the Send Email window, Request more info and other emails you send, activity notes and profile sharing messages.

Button What it does
Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough Format the selected text.
Subscript, Superscript Make the selected text small, below or above the line.
Link Turn the selected text into a link. Type the web address, then select OK.
Remove Format Take the formatting off the selected text.
Image Add a picture from a web address. The picture is linked, not attached, so it must stay online.
Source Show the text as HTML. Select it again to go back before you save.
Preview Open the text in a new window. Merge tags show as typed.
Save, New Page, Print, Templates The editor's own page tools. You don't need them. New Page empties the box, and Templates inserts sample layouts. To save, use the Save or Send button on enrola's page, not the one in the toolbar.

There are no list or heading buttons in emails.

Descriptions, notes and answers

The editor toolbar with Insert/Remove Numbered List, Insert/Remove Bulleted List, Italic, Link and Paragraph Format.

Used for an employer's Description, application notes, applicants' longer answers (such as a personal statement), feedback surveys and your own Rich text fields.

Button What it does
Insert/Remove Numbered List, Insert/Remove Bulleted List Start or end a list.
Italic Put the selected text in italics.
Link Turn the selected text into a link.
Paragraph Format Choose Normal, a heading, or another paragraph style.

Opportunity text sent to job boards

The Opportunity's Main Description, Entry requirements and Training to be Provided have only numbered and bulleted lists. Job boards, including Find an apprenticeship (shown as NAS in enrola), take plain text and lists, so other formatting would be lost. See The Opportunity record.

Pasting text

Everything you paste is pasted as plain text: bold, colours, fonts and tables from Word, Google Docs or a website are removed. After you paste, use the toolbar to add the formatting you need.

Keyboard shortcuts

On a Mac, use Cmd instead of Ctrl.

Keys Action
Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, Ctrl+U Bold, italic, underline (where the toolbar has them)
Ctrl+K Add a link
Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Y Undo, redo
Alt+F10 Move to the toolbar. Use the arrow keys to choose a button and Enter to press it. Esc goes back to the text.
Alt+0 Show the editor's accessibility help

Good to know

  • In record panels, enrola saves the text when you click out of the box.
  • To add a merge tag to an email, click it in the Legend under the editor. See Merge tags you can use in emails to applicants.
  • In dark mode the toolbar is shown in dark colours too.
