Check Level 2 English and Maths (Beta)

From an applicant's qualifications, enrola works out whether they show Level 2 English and Maths. It is a Beta: a helpful first look, not a decision. Always check the qualifications yourself before you rely on it.

What counts

enrola counts a qualification as Level 2 English or Maths when it is one of these:

  • a GCSE or IGCSE in English or Maths at grade 9 to 4 or A* to C;
  • a Functional Skills Level 2 in English or Maths with a pass (including merit or distinction).

To decide, enrola reads the qualification's type, subject, level, grade and status together. It never decides from a title alone. It does not count:

  • results marked failed, withdrawn, void, incomplete or not achieved, whatever their grade;
  • qualifications with no qualification type;
  • anything it isn't sure about. These are left for you to judge.

enrola checks every row in the Qualifications panel: those from the Learning Records Service (LRS) and any you added yourself.

Where you see the result

At the top of the Application

Once the Application has qualifications, a box under the applicant's name shows one of:

  • "Level 2 English and Maths identified"
  • "Level 2 English identified"
  • "Level 2 Maths identified"
  • "No high-confidence Level 2 English or Maths identified"

It is marked Level 2 · Beta, and shows English identified or English not identified, and Maths identified or Maths not identified.

The Level 2 English and Maths box at the top of an Application, marked Level 2 · Beta, with English and Maths both identified.

If the Application has no qualifications yet, the box doesn't show.

In the Applications list

The Level 2 · Beta column shows English & Maths (in green), English only, Maths only or Neither. It is blank for Applications with no qualifications.

If you have never changed your columns, the list shows it already. Otherwise, add it with Edit columns. See Use the live and archived Applications lists.

In the Qualifications panel

The qualifications that count move to the top of the panel and are highlighted. Hover over one to see "Level 2 English · Beta" or "Level 2 Maths · Beta".

The Qualifications panel, with the GCSE English and Maths rows that count at the top, highlighted.

Why it is a Beta

The LRS records qualifications in many ways, and some don't say clearly what they are. enrola is cautious and leaves unclear ones out, so it may miss a qualification that does count. It can also be wrong.

Before deciding anything, such as whether an applicant meets an Opportunity's entry requirements:

  1. Open the Qualifications panel.
  2. Check the highlighted rows, and look for others that should count.
  3. Ask the applicant for certificates if you need proof.

If enrola gets one wrong, tell the enrola team at support@enrola.co.uk so it can be improved.

Good to know

  • The result updates when the qualifications change, for example after you accept a potential match or add a row yourself.
  • The English level 2 and Maths level 2 filters are different. They use the applicant's own answer to the GCSE questions on the application form, not this check.
  • You can't sort the list by the Level 2 · Beta column.
