Coming soon: find and highlight your custom fields

Coming soon. This feature is planned and not yet in enrola. What you see when it arrives may differ from this description. We will update this article when it is released.

Today, to find a custom field you open the panels in Settings → Form fields one at a time, and nothing on screen says which fields are your own. Two changes are planned: custom fields will stand out wherever you arrange fields, and Admins will be able to search for a field and see where it is used.

What will change

Custom fields marked clearly

In the places where you arrange fields (the panel layouts in Settings → Form fields, Settings → Application forms and Settings → Applicant profiles):

  • Each of your own fields will carry a Custom marker.
  • Under each custom field, a short line will give its type, how many choices it has, and whether it is mandatory, for example "Dropdown · 4 choices · Mandatory".
  • A note above each list will explain the difference: custom fields are your organisation's own, which you can edit or delete; the others are built into enrola, which you can move but not change.
  • Settings → Form fields will show how many custom fields each panel holds, and mark custom panels.
  • These screens will work properly in dark mode.

Find a field

Admins will be able to search for a field from Settings. Type part of a field's label, or a panel's name, to see every match. Leave the search empty to see all your custom fields, grouped by record type and panel.

For each field, the results will show where it lives and how it is used:

  • the panel it is in, and its position;
  • the application forms that include it, and whether it is mandatory there;
  • whether it is on the applicant profile and the application PDF;
  • whether it is offered as a search filter;
  • its merge tag, ready to copy, for use in email templates;
  • its column name in CSV exports and imports.

The results will point out where two fields share the same label, because they then share a merge tag and an export column.

Fields that no page shows any more will be listed too, so you can tidy them up. enrola keeps their values.

Go straight to the field

Links in the results will open the right page with the field highlighted, for example the panel layout or the application form that uses it.

What stays the same

  • Your fields, their values and their layouts do not change.
  • Editing, moving and deleting fields work as they do today.
  • The search shows your own organisation's set-up only, never anyone's answers.

What you might need to do

Nothing. When it arrives, it is a quick way to check for fields with the same label.
